Bangalore-based fashion retailer Voonik has acqui-hired Trialkart, a startup that gives a virtual dressing room experience to users for an undisclosed amount.
With the increasing number of startups in fashion domain, personalisation or tailor made recommendations has become the next frontier for ecommerce companies to woo customers.
According to Sujayath Ali, co-founder, Voonik, “TrialKart has cracked some tough problems in virtual fitting and that’s what interested in the company.”
The Trialkart team will also build a new division at Voonik called ‘Image Intelligence’ to help shoppers buy on Voonik’s shopping app.
Voonik was founded in 2013 by Sujayath Ali and Navaneetha Krishnan. The online fashion retailer is a personal shopping app for women which allows them to buy apparels from multiple stores, according to their body type, lifestyle and budget.
The startup has a strong team comprising of ex-employees from Amazon, Zoho, HP Research Labs, IBM, Fresh Desk and Aryaka.
What differs Voonik from its competitors like Klip, Wooplr and Limeroad in social commerce space is that it offers in-house personal shopping platform which makes recommendations to shoppers based on their profile and preferences.
Voonik has over half a million stock keeping units (SKUs) under 60 categories including apparel, accessories, footwear, beauty products and more.
On an average, Voonik sees close to 2,500 purchases daily from 1,500 unique customers, a majority of which is through their mobile app.
According to App Annie, which is the standard in app analytics and app market data, Voonik is one of the top 10 app in the shopping category on Android phones in India.
To enhance its personalisation and style recommendation technology, Voonik secured $5 Mn funding led by Seedfund and Sequoia. Prior to this, the startup has also raised $390k (INR 2.5 Cr) from Seedfund.
