Noida-based Volob Technologies, a virtual reality startup, has been acquired in an all-cash deal by CarDekho.com, an auto portal.
The acquisition will help CarDekho.com’s 3D visualisation capabilities through technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality. Tarun Kumar, co-founder of Volob, said, “Joining CarDekho.com will help us provide solutions which can enable automotive industry deliver life-like experiences to car buyers across multiple touchpoints.”
Founded in 2010 by Tarun Kumar and Shweta Jain, Volob Technologies, provides 3D visualisation solutions to various industries, primarily automotive. The startup has serviced big brands like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej, Greenply, and Somany Ceramics.
Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO at CarDekho.com, said, “Visual experience is an important element in assessing a car or bike. Volob has proven expertise in the virtual content. CarDekho’s acquisition of Volob is aimed at amplifying the visual experience of car buyers in both real and virtual settings.”
In the latest development, CarDekho.com launched ‘Feel the Car,’ an online tool that gives 360 degree interior/exterior views with sounds of the car and explanations of features with videos.
Founded in March 2008, CarDekho.com is an auto portal catering to the aspiring buyers, the proud owners, the auto enthusiasts and die-hard fans and dealers of cars across the country. It is a flagship portal of Girnar Software Pvt. Ltd. With all the companies it had acquired in the past, they together draw close to 33 Mn visits per month with 22 Mn unique visitors per month.
Volob is GirnarSoft’s eighth deal in the last two years. Earlier it made a strategic investment in Advanced Structures India. It has acquired Connecto, a Noida based SaaS startup; Drishya360s, a premier augmented reality and video production startup; Help on Wheels, a road side assistance company; Zigwheels.com, an online platform that helps buying & selling of cars or bikes; Gaadi.com, it allows users to buy & sell new and pre-owned cars; and BuyingIQ, a price comparison site and intelligent shopping engine. The company has also incubated and invested in CollegeDekho.com.
