Bengaluru-based Swiggy is planning to merge its premium food delivery service, Scootsy, within its mainstream food aggregation and delivery business by the end of this month. With this, Scootsy’s customers in Mumbai will also be redirected to a curated section on the Swiggy app.
Scootsy was founded in 2015 by Rishi Khiani, Sandeep Das, Sanjay Ghai and Sunil Saraf. It is a one-stop pan-city delivery platform, which enables on-demand fulfillment of consumer needs. The Mumbai-based platform works with a combination of leading and small-scale businesses across food, sweets and bakes, books, beauty products, fashion and gifts to provide home delivery for users.
It has partnered with consumer brands like Happily Unmarried, India Circus, Propshop24, Some House Deli, Starbucks, Theobroma, Party Hunterz, Madcaps, Pop Art Factory, Maal by Social among others. In August 2018, Swiggy had acquired hyperlocal startup Scootsy, which continued to operate independently even after the acquisition. However, this allowed the company to strengthen its curated restaurant network and expand across Mumbai.
Looking at the current hike in demand for curated food choices from premium brands, Swiggy has decided to formally integrate Scootsy into its platform. For now, the services offered by Scootsy will continue to be available in Mumbai, but through Swiggy’s food aggregation app. In order to boost its operations, Swiggy will leverage its partnerships with premium brands like ITC Hotels, Marriott, Hyatt, KA Hospitality and more.
The company, in a media statement, highlighted that this would be Swiggy’s “first major milestone” in setting up the premium category. It has assured that Scootsy’s customers will experience the same level of service, more choices for cuisines and restaurants.
Swiggy also offers hyperlocal operations in Bengaluru and Gurugram through its Swiggy Go services. The company started off Swiggy Go operations in Bengaluru in September last year, it plans to expand to 300 cities by 2020.
However, Swiggy had to reset and make last-minute changes in its plans due to the pandemic. Due to surge in demand for groceries and “essentials” during the nation-wide lockdown, Swiggy expanded its grocery delivery services to most of the cities where it has food delivery operations.
It has also partnered with retail grocery stores like Vishal Mega Mart and FMCG player Marico to deliver products. It also offers to deliver essentials and other daily-use items through Swiggy Stores. Moreover, Swiggy, along with its rival zomato, has started home delivery of alcoholic beverages and liquor across Jharkhand and Kolkata.
