There’s adoption of technology and then there’s adoption of tech that spirals the adopter towards advancement at a pace faster than one can imagine. One such case in point is Rajasthan, which is leaping digitally forward each day.

Under the aegis of the Hon’ble CM Vasundhara Raje and her able team, the Rajasthan government has been taking new strides in digital advancement and in bringing technology closer to the common man.

One such initiative by the state government and the Department of Information Technology and Communication (DoITC) is the Rajasthan DigiFest, which was launched in 2016. The DigiFest, the government claims, is the largest technological fest in the country, attracting more than one lakh people from across the world.

With a view to leapfrog further on the technology charts of India, the Rajasthan DigiFest is back with its fourth edition. Themed around Technology For All, this year’s DigiFest is scheduled to be held from July 25-27 in the city of Bikaner.

Rajasthan DigiFest-Hackathon 5.0

“The Hackathon is not a one-off event but a part of a series, aimed at engaging with the best young brains of the country so that they may partner with us in inventing a better tomorrow for the state.” — CM Vasundhara Raje.

The main thing that has worked in favour of the Rajasthan Government is its ability to pick up the pulse of its people and then offer solutions around it. One of its most successful initiatives has been the hackathons. From 400 coders in the first hackathon on Rajasthan IT Day 2017 to 5,000 coders on Rajasthan IT day in March 2018, the hackathons have seen tremendous interest from the coding community.

Hackathon 5.0, which is one of the main highlights of the upcoming Rajasthan DigiFest in July, will provide a platform to anyone who can offer ingenious solutions to bring change in the state. The participants — from the coding, developer, designer, and other communities — will be given a chance to innovate on themes like Bhamashah Yojana, e-Mitra, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), AR/VR, blockchain, etc. The winner of the Code-From-Home online Hackathon will get a chance to enter the Hackathon 5.0 directly.

Green-a-thon at Rajasthan DigiFest

DoITC is also organising a Greenathon as part of the DigiFest in an effort to further the aim of building a sustainable nation in symbiosis with the central government’s vision. The 24-hour coding competition will encourage ideas that can help build a sustainable world. Participants will be offered a platform to showcase their solutions for sustainable energy as well as environmental issues.

Hackathons organised by the Rajasthan government are becoming increasingly popular and have helped participants take their ideas to fruition. For instance, in Hackathon 4.0 Jalandhar-based AK Pal Robotic won the first prize ($ 22k or INR 15 Lakhs) for creating automatic robotic arm locomotive platform based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Another winner was a startup from Bengaluru, Swift Ace, which won projects worth ($11k or INR 7.5 Lakhs); the startup used the Bhamashah API to ease login into the Bhamashah platform, using a single sign-on facial authentication. There have been many more success stories.

The hackathons are not just about the prize but also about the opportunity to collaborate with an extensive base of coders across domains.
