The government of Maharashtra, this week, held discussions with US-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla to invite possible investment into the state. According to media reports, Maharashtra has also started searching for land in prime locations for the electric vehicle maker to build its plant in India. The government is considering offering land near Pune, Nashik and Nagpur.

A government official, seeking anonymity, told Business Today that Maharashtra has a geographical advantage as the central state in the country. Moreover, it is strategically located for exports to other Asian countries, the Middle East and Africa.

Even the Karnataka government is looking to rope in Tesla’s investment into the state. According to media reports published in September, Tesla had initiated talks to set up a research and innovation center in Bengaluru.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, in July, indicated that the company’s luxury electric cars will “hopefully” come soon to India. Recently, Musk shared more details on its India launch, saying that the company will be entering the Indian market by 2021 “for sure”.

Renault May Be Ready To Launch First EV in India

French automaker Renault’s latest EV model Zoe was spotted during testing on Indian roads. The photos of the Renault Zoe electric hatchback with a temporary Tamil Nadu licence plate were shared on social media. This had triggered speculation that the automobile maker may launch its EV products in the Indian market soon.

Delhi Govt Approves Over 100 EV Models For Subsidies

The government of Delhi has identified 100 EV models, which will be eligible for subsidies under the latest EV policy. Till now, 36 manufacturers have registered and 98 dealers have joined the mission. Transport minister Kailash Gahlot said that the Delhi government has set up a portal ev.delhi.gov.in and EV owners can apply for the subsidy.

The 100 models consist of 14 electric two-wheelers, 12 electric four-wheelers, 2 electric-auto, 45 e-rickshaw models and 17 e-cart models.

MG Motors-Tata Power Install First Superfast Charging Station In Nagpur

MG Motor and Tata Power Corporation Limited have inaugurated their first superfast charging EV station in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The move will be a part of MG Motors and Tata Power partnership for the deployment of 50 KW DC superfast charging stations across India.

Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Limited launched their first high performance electric cargo three wheelers Kinetic Safar Jumbo. The electric three-wheeler is equipped with an advanced Lithium ion battery pack designed to give a range of 120 km on a single charge.
