Ecommerce giant Amazon has invested about $214 Mn (INR 1,381 Cr) in its data services unit, Amazon Data Services India, as per regulatory filings. The investment was done in November 2016.

Delhi-registered Amazon Data Services India raised about $212 Mn (INR 1,367 Cr) from its Germany-based entity A100 Row and close to $2 Mn (INR 14 Cr) from Amazon.com, as per documents filed with RoC.

The filings further stated that the funding was raised by allocating 1.38 Bn shares at a face value of INR 10/share. The entity was incorporated in June 2016 with an authorised capital of $139.7 Mn (INR 900 Cr). However, it has increased the authorised share capital to $357 Mn (INR 2,300 Cr).

Amazon Data Services provides data storage, data protection solutions and operations that pertain to computer hardware and software that deal with data storage.

As per official records, Rakesh Mohan Bakshi and Bikram Singh Bedi are the directors of Amazon Data Services India Pvt. Ltd. Bakshi’s LinkedIn account mentions that he is currently the Head – Legal and Corporate Affairs and Associate General Counsel at Amazon India. On the other hand, Bedi’s LinkedIn states that he holds the position of Head – India Region at Amazon Internet Services Pvt. Ltd.

The Amazon Data Services registered office address is the same as Delhi-based Amazon Internet Services Pvt. Ltd, which is the local reseller of Amazon Web Services Inc (AWS) in India.

The company also recently received a final nod from the government for its proposed $500 Mn investment in food retail in India. It is currently looking to push its reach throughout the country through capital infusion.

Amazon Data Services is not the only segment funded by the ecommerce giant. Earlier this month, it was reported that the ecommerce giant fuelled an additional $20 Mn (INR 130 Cr) into digital payments entity, Amazon Pay India, as per regulatory filings. The US-based ecommerce giant poured in about $260 Mn (INR 1,680 Cr) in seller services too. This took the total money invested in the Indian unit to about $2.1 Bn (INR 13,800 Cr). In June 2017, the company further fuelled $32 Mn (INR 207 Cr) in its logistics services, the logistics arm of the company.
