Ratan Tata’s investment firm, RNT Associates, has partnered with the University of California (UC Investments) to jointly fund startups over the next 10 years in India.
Ratan Tata, chairman of RNT Associates said, “Though many details need to be worked out, the joint view is to encourage entrepreneurship. We haven’t pre-judged what we are going to do, or the size of investments but we are looking to invest in young entrepreneurs and believe that the University of California could provide great assistance to them.”
No investment targets or corpus details have been disclosed yet.
Till date, over 25 startups have received personal investments. His investments include stakes in three of India’s unicorns including Ola, Snapdeal and Paytm. Besides, he has joined three venture capital firms, IDG Ventures, Kalaari Capital and Jungle Ventures, as an advisor. He recently invested in Teabox and First Cry. In January itself Tata invested in Tracxn Technologies, Gurgaon-based online pet care portal, DogSpot and online cashback and coupons venture CashKaro.
