Google Southeast Asia and India’s Vice President Rajan Anandan has invested an undisclosed amount in women’s health tracker app Maya.

The funding will be used to enhance its user experience, product development and in expanding its user base in India.

Founded in 2012 by John Paul, Bengaluru-based mobile app Maya is a menstruation tracker. It enables women to keep track of their menstrual and physiological health via a mobile application. With the tracker, women can record information regarding their menstrual health. It also traces out a pattern to help women manage their health better.

It is also building a personal health assistant based on data, analytics, and machine learning that will provide women insights regarding their personal health and wellbeing. It claims to have processed more than 100 Mn data points to build its predictive models.

Maya had earlier raised $748K (INR 5 Cr) from Prime Venture Partners this year.

In another development, Raghu Mallena will join Maya’s team as Chief Technology Officer. Mallena was earlier associated with NetApp, Cisco, and Juniper Technology.

Commenting on his new role at Maya, Raghu Mallena said, “I have been in the tech industry for more than 20 years and worked on some great projects – but Maya is a different ballgame. It is humbling to work on something that changes the lives of millions of women across the world. Maya has already generated more than a 100 Mn data points and we are just getting started. Using technology and data science to solve problems that have not been addressed before is a challenge I am looking forward to.”

Maya claims to have more than 1.2 Mn active users per month. It has had 6.5 Mn + downloads in more than 50 countries across the world. The app supports 13 languages worldwide including Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French. It is also planning to support regional languages in India.

Rajan Anandan has previously invested in startups like SocialCops, Appknox, Fulfill.IO, Stoodnt, and Smytten among others.
