Delhi-based chat based mobile app Goodservice has raised $1.6 Mn in a funding round led by Sequoia Capital. The app works like a personal assistant, which lets users get anything done on chat.
Its like a personal, on-demand concierge service; for instance you want to book an electrician you just have to send a message and it will get all done. It is similar to what US based startups Magic and Operator does.
Founded in 2014 by Vipul Aggarwal, a Stanford Graduate and Ruchir Jain, an IIM-Ahmedabad Alumnus, the startup is working with a 40 member team.
How it work
When a user send a chat message, its systems get to work understanding your need. They match request, location, budget & schedule to find the most reliable and qualified service provider options. To make it effortless, dedicated Goodservice agents personally sift through the options and take care of all the calling, negotiating and booking to get the job done.
Goodservice, through its website and the recently launched app already caters to requests worth more than INR 30 lakhs a day.
The startup makes booking movie tickets, getting doctor’s appointments, finding products and accessories from local stores or getting food delivered from any restaurant – painless, with its simple chat message based app. It claims to offer 24 hour service with a promise of never saying ‘NO’ to any legal request.
Currently operational in Delhi, with the new funding, the startup will has plans to expand into Bangalore and Mumbai over the next few weeks. As of now, Goodservice is free for customers but it takes a cut as its commission from merchants and service professionals.
The startup competes with other in the services marketplace category including Urbanclap, Taskbok, Housejoy and Qyk, among others.
