While the unicorns in the Indian startup ecosystem have rightfully grabbed the headlines over the years even beyond the startup world, as someone who has kept a keen eye on the growth of startups, it’s the soonicorns (or soon-to-be unicorns) that have always excited us more. As they say, success is a journey and not a destination and we have tracked the journey of many of today’s unicorns from the soonicorn stage.

In our The State of Indian Tech Startup Ecosystem Report for 2018, we picked out 30 startups as soonicorns or businesses that had the potential to turn unicorns by 2020. Out of these 30, the likes of Zerodha, Icertis, Druva, Lenskart and Delhivery achieved unicorn-level valuation in the last two years.

Now, for 2020, we have updated this list of soonicorns as part of the Inc42 Plus The State of Indian Tech Startup Ecosystem Report 2020. We have shortlisted 52 Indian soonicorn startups that have the potential to join the unicorn club by 2022.

And just like with the Indian Unicorn Tracker, we are launching the Indian Soonicorn Tracker today as a free preview. The soonicorn tracker will have the key data about every growth-stage startup such as the year launched, founders, headquarters, total funding, current valuation, revenues, board of directors as well the latest links to stories from Inc42’s library of content and more.

A look at the table will also help one clearly understand the most promising startups in each sector as well as the investor landscape in this class of startups. Together, these 52 upcoming unicorns have raised a total funding of $9.4 Bn to date in disclosed rounds, with 18 startups coming from the fintech sector, followed by eight from ecommerce and seven from the consumer services sector.
