Gurugram-based Twenty Two Motors has launched its smart electric scooter, Flow, at the Auto Expo 2018.

The company has priced Flow at $1161 (INR 74,740) and pre-bookings started from Thursday. Flow uses Artificial Intelligence and is connected to a cloud server which can suggest upcoming service requirements. While driving, it will also keep the driver updated on the touch dashboard display.

Parveen Kharb, CEO and Co-Founder, Twenty Two Motors said, “Flow, our first and flagship product, is way ahead of time, not just for the Indian market but also several international markets. Electric Mobility is the future of the world – a near future, not distant.”

A user-centric mobile application provides touch solution to all aspects of the vehicle, while geo-fencing allows security against theft. Geo-fencing alerts the owner once the vehicle is beyond the defined geographical boundaries.

With a charging session of 5 hours, Flow can travel more than 80 km at speeds of up to 60 Km per hour. Flow also offers telescopic suspension, in-built mobile charger and sufficient storage space for 2 helmets. It also features disk brakes, LED lamps, drag mode, reverse mode etc.

Vijay Chandrawat COO and Co-founder of Twenty Two Motors said, “We are the only company in the world to provide matchless features such as state-of-art sensors, smart features, lithium-ion storage, and Internet of Things.”

The company plans to sell more than two lakh units in the coming three years.

Also, the company will launch its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Haryana and will be operational by Q2 2018. Twenty Two Motors plans to roll out 50,000 vehicles per year with an investment of about $ 70 Mn over a period of 2.5 years.

Twenty Two Motors is one of the 12 startups that are showcasing their products at the Auto Expo 2018.

In the electric two-wheeler section, Twenty Two Motors competes with Bengaluru-based Emflux Motors, which is in the process of developing its first electric superbike model called  EMFLUX ONE.

There are a couple of other startups that are working on electric two-wheelers.

Founded in 2015 Ultraviolette Automotive designs and develops electric motorcycles and battery packs them with a modern premium look. Chennai-based TVS Motor recently bought a 14.78% stake in the company.

TVS Motors itself is developing an electric scooter, which is expected to be on road in the coming financial year.

Another startup in the category is Ather Energy, which was founded in 2013 in Bengaluru. It launched its first smart electric scooter, the S340, in February 2016. The company raised $32 Mn investment from Hero MotoCorp.

Hero MotoCorp is working on developing its in-house electric two-wheelers at its Centre for Innovation and Technology in Jaipur.

In the growing electric vehicle segment, many more products are awaited to be launched at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018, Greater Noida. However, we will have to wait and see what other products are launched to challenge Twenty Two Motors’ electric scooter.
