Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric witnessed the highest number of electric two-wheeler registrations in September with a 179% month-on-month (MoM) jump to 9,616 units, as per Vahan data on October 1.
The electric mobility startup’s vehicle registration had taken a hit over the last few months following one of its escooters catching fire and users reporting safety issues with them. Consequently, its escooter registrations started declining on a MoM basis after clocking the highest number of 12,707 units in April. Registrations stood at 3,440 units in August.

Following this, the startup launched a more affordable version of its Ola S1 Pro scooter in mid-August. In a statement on September 1, Ola Electric said that it sold 10,000 units of its latest Ola S1 model within 24 hours of opening the booking window for early reservations.
Besides, the EV manufacturer has also decided to aggressively launch experience centres across India. Ola Electric said it was planning to launch over 200 experience centres across the country by March.
“Experience centres will enable even more people to experience our products,” Aggarwal said in a tweet, adding that customers were loving the convenience of online purchases and test rides, which was happening to the tune of thousands a day.
From manufacturing Lithium-ion battery cells to launching its own electric car by 2024, Ola Electric has big plans to become a leader in the country’s nascent EV space.
Recently, Aggarwal also said that Ola Electric was looking to foray into Nepal with its Ola S1 and S1 Pro scooters in the beginning of the next quarter.
Overall Escooter Registrations In September
Among two-wheeler EV majors in India, Ola Electric was one of the few players whose vehicle registrations improved in September.
Besides Ola Electric, Ather Energy also saw a 16% MoM rise in two-wheeler EV registrations to a record 6,157 units in September.
However, most of the other major players, including Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech, Ampere Electric, and Pure EV, saw a MoM decline in terms of vehicle registrations in September.
In terms of ranking, Ola Electric was at first position, followed by Okinawa Autotech and Hero Electric.
The overall two-wheeler EV registrations saw a 2.3% MoM increase to 51,679 in September from 50,508 in August.
The total EV registrations across segments are also on a rise in the country. In September, the number touched its highest ever figure at 91,425 units, registering a 6.2% increase on a MoM basis.
Meanwhile, the Centre and various state governments are working on various policies and refining the existing ones to incentivise EV adoption in the country. The Indian government aims to have 30 Mn EVs in the country in the next two years.
