The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal, on January 25 and 26, is organising a 24-hour national level hackathon, HackVerse, to find solutions to various problems that are affecting the society.
While around 2,500 colleges, institutes, and universities have registered for the event, the organising committee shortlisted only 200 teams to participate in the hackathon. Several Indian Institute of Technologies (IIT) and other universities from all over India are participating in the hackathon.
The top three teams of the HackVerse will receive a cash prize of INR 75K, INR 60K, and INR 40K, respectively. Additionally, all participants will receive goodies and prizes worth INR 85 Lakhs. The hackathon will provide a platform to test new innovations if they are capable to find solutions to real-world problems.
The hackathon is a part of Diamond Jubilee of NITK. “To commemorate 60 years of NITK, we aim to gather all like-minded hackers to our own institute,” the official website read.
Other contests in which students can participate in this hackathon include creating an application program interface (APIs) on blockchain-based technologies.
HackVerse will be attended by a few important personalities like Divakar Kamath, director, Google Cloud India; Saurabh Gupta, senior developer advocate at DigitalOcean; and Sharad Srivastava, senior engineering manager at Adobe Systems.
In India, hackathons are helping to find solutions to most of the complex problems that the country faces. Recently, Youth Integrated Development Society hosted the Uttar Pradesh Smart Hackathon 2019 on December 18 and 19, 2019, to get student entrepreneurs on board.
The hackathon was organised by the Indian government-run oil and gas company IndianOil. The event hosted over 400 colleges across Uttar Pradesh and three lakh student entrepreneurs. The event was held at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative (FII) event, encouraged the Indian youth to participate in global hackathons and compete with startups from all across the world. He also added that he is giving attention to the Indian startups to bring a change in the world, even though the number of Indian startups compared to the global community is less.
