Microsoft has selected 12 startups for the 12th cohort of its Microsoft ScaleUp (earlier called Microsoft Accelerator) programme. Microsoft ScaleUp is part of the ‘Microsoft For Startups’ initiative, which was launched in February 2018.

The ‘Microsoft for Startups’ initiative saw commitment of $500 Mn over the next two years to provide startups access to technology, go-to-market and community benefits that helps them grow their customer and revenue base.

What Is Microsoft ScaleUp Programme?

Microsoft ScaleUp programme focuses on late stage B2B startups and helps them accelerate their business growth through mentorship, streamlined go-to-market (GTM) activities and most importantly access to world-class technology.

The 12 selected startups are focused on areas of Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, Big Data analytics, among others to build solutions for the market.

During the six-month programme, these startups will work closely with Microsoft leaders, industry experts and leverage the Microsoft Partner Network to scale their business models and serve enterprise clients.

The programme gives selected startups access to Microsoft’s technology expertise, infrastructure and Azure cloud platform to build a strong technology backbone for their business.

The startups will also be able to access Microsoft’s global alumni network of over 730 startups, which aims to foster peer support and networking as well as provide access to Microsoft industry and customer events.

Here Are The 12 Selected Startups

AppICE: Founded in 2015, the startup has built a proprietary platform that can take soft and hard sensor data from connected devices like smartphones and use machine learning to generate actionable insights.

Appiyo Technologies: The Singapore-based company has created Twixor, which is the first of its kind ‘customer engagement platform’ which brings together the power of bi-directional actionable messaging’ and Business Process Management (BPM). Twixor delivers actionable customer engagement in a PWA (Progressive Web App) capsule powered by their versatile BPM engine.

Avanseus: Founded in 2015, the Singapore-based startup delivers AI based enterprise solutions for Mobile, Fixed, Transmission and IP Backbone Networks, Industrial Analytics, Security, Railways and the Internet of Things, transforming massive amounts of data into useful business insights and actions.

eGovernments Foundation: The Bengaluru-based startup aims to build and drive government transformations across India using open source technology.

Gaia Smart Cities: Mumbai-based startups is a Data Automation and Analytics Company focused on bringing together multiple IoT and digital data streams into a single platform to enable the clients to measure, monitor and manage performance and service delivery.

GrowthEnabler: The London-headquarter startup was founded in 2015 and has created an AI and Algorithm based global intelligence platform that provides global enterprises the fastest way to leverage disruptive technologies, business models, and digital product innovations born out of the global startup economy.

Karo Sambhav: Gurugram-based Karo Sambhav was founded in 2017 and is a tech-enabled, environmentally beneficial and socially responsible Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) that is setting up a robust India-wide transformative solution on e-waste management.

Kogence: California-based Kogence brings flexibility, agility and productivity in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) based workflows.

MachineSense: Founded in 2014, MachineSense has developed a patented Industrial IoT system for Predictive, Preventative and Electrical Maintenance of Industrial Machines. The company aims to build an IIoT platform for factory and building utilities that includes electricity, compressed air, water, HVAC, vacuum, etc.

SmartVizX: Delhi NCR-based SmartVizX is developing VArch Suite, a virtual reality product that improves interior design collaboration in the Architecture-Engineering-Construction (AEC) industry by offering immersive visualisation, spatial awareness, interactivity with design elements, data management and communication features.

Sprinkle Data: Founded in 2017, Sprinkle Data provides search based Insight discovery and adaptive data management software-as-service.

Xurmo Technologies: Bengaluru-based Xurmo Technologies is a self-service data ingestion, preparation and analysis platform built with the vision to simplify and automate data-driven decisions. By simplifying the analytics process, Xurmo enables faster adoption of data-driven decision making in enterprises.

Other Accelerator Programmes Popular In India

In the Indian startup space, some of the ongoing accelerator programmes include Shell E4, which recently selected five startups for its first cohort.

Prior to that, global aerospace and security giant Lockheed Martin announced that it will open applications for its annual India innovation growth programme (IIGP) to seek innovative ideas of Indian startups and university students.

Also, Techstars announced that it will launch a new startup accelerator programme in India. The programme aims to focus on hardware and software technology sectors and will support 10 early stage startups. Earlier, Amazon opened applications for its annual Amazon Alexa Accelerator 2018 to seek out 13 promising startups which use voice technology.

As Microsoft welcomes 12 new startups to its accelerator programme Microsoft ScaleUp, some of the other initiatives of Microsoft under its ‘Microsoft for Startups’ initiative will be worth looking forward to.
