Online marketplace Flipkart has recently tied up with Yahoo to allow people to shop on Flipkart by being on the Yahoo homepage. With this, Yahoo India users can now directly shop on Flipkart while consuming news and content on Yahoo.

One can find the shopping tab on the Yahoo India homepage which on clicking directs to the co-branded marketplace i.e. yahoo.store.flipkart.com

While exploring the co-branded website we found that the products listed were similar as on the Flipkart website from electronics to books, apparel etc. and provides the same shopping experience.

Gurmit Singh, managing director, Yahoo India, said “With easy access to Flipkart directly from the Yahoo homepage, we believe that the millions of users who visit the Yahoo network daily will now enjoy not only premium content, but also an exciting shopping experience.”

The new partnership will help Flipkart to significantly add new customers. Flipkart currently offers over 20 Mn products across 70+ categories including Books, Media, Consumer Electronics and Lifestyle with about 26 Mn registered users clocking over 6 Mn daily visits.

Mausam Bhatt, senior director, online marketing at Flipkart said, “We are always looking for innovative ways of engaging with the customer. Flipkart and Yahoo are both market leaders in their own space – and in a market where people are increasingly consuming content on digital platforms, a partnership like this helps bridge content and commerce to enhance the product discovery and purchase cycle for online shoppers,” he said.

Flipkart currently is working really hard to gain the control and maintain its position in the Indian ecommerce segment; be it via adding new categories, innovation in shopping experience, providing value added services etc. Let’s see how this tie up turns out to be for the 7 year old online retailer.

Recently, Yahoo was in news after it said that it will be laying of 400 people working in India. In September it had acquired Bangalore based Bookpad.
