With placements for top notch institutions in India just around the corner, Flipkart has reportedly decided against hiring new candidates from IIT and IIM’s for year 2017.
Over the last two years, Flipkart has been hiring 200-250 students together from IITs and IIMs each year.
As stated by company’s Chief Administrative Officer, Nitin Seth, the company will first focus on absorbing the students it has previously hired.
He further added,
“We have 175 students from IITs interning with us who are graduating in 2017 and we will make PPO offers to some of them. That will be our direct intake for 2017. Also, we had deferred joining of about 250-odd students from IITs and IIMs who will join us in mid-December. The combination of these two will meet our campus need for 2017.”
Earlier, in August this year, 31 startups were banned from conducting placements at IITs, after several incidences of startups delaying and revoking job offers last year. The list included startups like Grofers, Portea Medical, Peppertap, Cashcare Technologies, etc. Grofers, the hyperlocal grocery delivery startup, even got stuck in a legal tangle after it revoked the job offers of 67 students.
Although, Flipkart also deferred job offers for 15 IIM-A students, it was saved from the brunt of institutions just with a warning.
