Online event ticketing industry in India is said to be a 5000 Cr. market that is growing at a rate of 15% year on year. Though there are a number of players operating in this space, but still there hasn’t been any clear cut leader in the Do-It-Yourself Market for small and medium scale events.

If we see a more mature market like USA, there are clear cut to players catering to two different segments of market. The Big Ticketed Events market has been catered by TicketMaster and small & medium scale event market (which prefers a do-it-yourself registration management tool) has been catered by EventBrite.

Moving on the lines of the type of market that Eventbrite has captured in the USA, Townscript is a startup targeting this market in India by providing easy to use registration management tools that can address all key pain points in event registration & payments collection.

Founded by Sachin Sharma an IIT Kanpur graduate, and Sanchit Malik an MIT-Pune grad, Townscript provides a simple and powerful way to create event registration/ticketing page and mobile event app within a minute.

“Small and medium size events organizers need a registration management tool which can help them in collecting payments online easily without any hassles,” tells Sanchit Malik.

The startup has recently grabbed angel funding led by a group of investors including Mohit Garg (Co-Founder, MindTickle),  Mahesh Parasuraman (Managing Director- Carlyle Group), Nipam Shah (Founder, NRS Advisors), Dheeraj Vasisht (Director – Ameretat Technologies), Sandeep Bhandarkar (CEO – Ameretat Technologies), Hemal Patel ( CEO – Cyberoam Technologies), Lalit Singh (Executive Director – Enterprise Services HP), Kalyan G (AVP Technology Business, Mahindra Tech) and few others.

Growth In Numbers

Launched in January last year, Townscript has witnessed growth of 30% Month on Month. So far, it has served more than 1000 event organizers, few of the premium organizers being ESummit IIT-Bombay, Rubyconf India, Mood Indigo, Startup Leadership Program, Pune International Marathon and many more.

As per the company 80% of its customers have come on board via Inbound and 20% customers via direct sales and business partnerships.

The company aims to achieve a growth of 400% this year in the number of ticket sales. Further, it targets to reach 5,000 small and medium size event organizers. “This will require us to penetrate in all the major cities of the country,” says Sanchit.

“In product, we will continue focussing on building a clean & intuitive interface that fulfils all major needs of event organizers. And to also allow them to control all aspects of their registration requirements in a Do-it-yourself way, he adds.

Considering the fact that the Indian consumers are rapidly opting for mobile apps, Townscript was the first one to launch an event app.
