One of India’s most popular television channels, Discovery, is set to unveil a new TV show called ‘India Startup Stories’ to focus on the tech startups that are making the biggest impact in the Indian ecosystem.
The eight-episode series will be showcasing the journey of startups who have made an impact in the Indian business ecosystem. Beginning this Saturday (December 14) at 7:00 pm on Discovery Channel and Discovery Channel HD, the series will showcase startups ranging from diverse sectors and at various stages of growth.
The lineup includes prominent Indian startups like Cars24, Design Cafe, Games24x7, Medlife, Licious, ixigo, Policybazaar and Paisabazar.
Discovery’s head of ad-sales for South Asia, Vikram Tanna said that the show throws light upon the vision behind successful startups and entrepreneurs, the fascinating stories behind the idea, the journey and the challenges.
Previously, the infotainment television channel had launched several Indian-centric documentaries and shows such as India’s Best Jobs, Planet Healers and The Story of India among others. This year, in a popular television series Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was featured on the show.
Startups Featured In Discovery’s New Series
Cars24:
Founded in 2015, Gurugram-based Cars24 was started by Vikram Chopra, Gajendra Jangid, Ruchit Agarwal and Mehul Agrawal. The company claims to create an efficient marketplace for used cars, with valuation tips and advice. It has a marketplace model as well as an auction model for used cars.
Design Cafe:
Bengaluru-based Design Cafe was founded in 2011 by architects and designers Gita Ramanan and Shezaan Bhojani as a traditional design company. In 2015, the founders pivoted to an online business model and launched their digital interior design platform.
Games24x7:
Mumbai-based Games24x7 is an Indian online and mobile gaming startup. The company was founded by Bhavin Pandya, Trivikraman Thampy. Games24x7 started its journey in 2009 and by 2017, they had over 15 million players who had played their six games, including RummyCircle, Ultimate Teen Patti, Ultimate Rummy among others.
Medlife:
Bengaluru-based Medlife was founded in 2014 by Tushar Kumar and Prashant Singh, and in August 2019, ex-Myntra CEO Ananth Narayanan joined the company as the cofounder and CEO. Medlife started its journey as an inventory-led epharmacy and helps doctors digitally manage and store patient records.
Licious:
Founded in 2015, Bengaluru-based Licious was started by Abhay Hanjura and Vivek Gupta. The startup functions on the farm to fork business model, where it owns the entire supply chain. Licious leverages advanced technology, where it adheres to stringent cold chain processes that help in maintaining the quality and freshness of the product, right from procurement, processing, storage to reaching the end-customer.
Ixigo:
Gurugram-based ixigo was launched in 2006 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar. The company aggregates and compares real-time travel information, prices and the availability of flights, trains, buses, cabs, hotels, packages and destinations.
PolicyBazaar:
Delhi-NCR based online insurance aggregator PolicyBazaar was founded in 2008 by Alok Bansal, Avaneesh Nirjar and Yashish Dahiya. PolicyBazaar Group has two ventures, PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar. PolicyBazaar lists all major insurance companies on its platform in India which helps users to compare, decide and buy insurance policies, seamlessly. PaisaBazaar was started in 2014. It is a financial advisory and digital lending platform that helps users to make smart investment decisions.
