Yuvraj Singh Backed Coworking Chain Creator’s Gurukul Raises Angel Funding From Rohit Nanda, Others

New Delhi-based coworking space provider Creator’s Gurukul has raised an undisclosed amount in another round of funding from series of investors. The list includes Rohit Nanda, a well-known banker, and equity investor; Rajit Nanda, CIO of ACWA Power Dubai; Smarak Bhuyan, an investor based out of the Bay Area, California. Apart from this, Sashwat Brahma, Senior Banker and an environmentalist based out of Singapore also participated in this round.

As shared in an official statement, these investors would also be advising Creators Gurukul’s management in strategy and growth.

“The concept of coworking space is invading in the country with a high pace. It was almost an instantaneous decision to participate in Creator’s Gurukul recent funding, as soon as I was exposed to this opportunity, because of its unique business model, well-balanced team, alliances and the vision. The brand will be of immense value to budding entrepreneurs, Startup curators, Corporate World and many others who are helping shape the ecosystem,” Rohit Nanda said.

Earlier in July 2017, cricketer Yuvraj Singh also invested an undisclosed amount in Creator’s Gurukul and come onboard as a partner and brand ambassador for the startup as well. Yuvraj Singh has been an active investor in the Indian startup ecosystem. To date, he has backed startups such as Healthians, EazyDiner and Rahul Yadav’s short-lived startup Intelligence Interfaces. His VC firm YouWeCan too has invested in ventures including Black White Orange and Startup Buddy.

“I am an avid believer of working in a free spirited environment where the like-minded brains collaborate resulting the best for the business, be it cricket, corporate etc. I am glad to represent Creator’s Gurukul as its brand ambassador since it brings a vibrant community of startups, freelancers, SME with the minimalistic infrastructure worries. Creator’s Gurukul: How The Latest Funding Will Help Coworking Chain Realise Its Vision

Creator’s Gurukul was co-founded by IIT Delhi alumnus Abhinav Tandon and serial entrepreneur Mohammed Sirajuddin in April 2017. It is backed by high-net- worth individuals such as Shabir Momin (Singapore), Anubhav Kaul (Hong Kong) and Jasmeet Singh.

The team also includes industry veterans like Taranjeet Sapra, Vikas Sharma, K S Sirish , Vineet Tyagi , Surya Prakash and Ram Atri.

Creator’s Gurukul, as its name suggests, aims to turbocharge the Indian entrepreneurial environment by blending Global best practices and collaborations. “We further aim to blend it with India Inspired Ethos, innovations, design elements and Inspirations from the Golden Age of India when our country used to be the leader in the world in business excellence, innovation and trade,” said Mohammed Sirajuddin.

The startup vision is to achieve this goal by creating green spaces with a soul where top industry leaders and the most brilliant entrepreneurial minds can co- work as well as synergise to exchange ideas and help startups overcome business obstacles.

The coworking space is looking to open its first centre, a 500-seater space in Gurugram. It will be launching another two centres by the end of this year and total of over 15,000 seats across India in the first 18 months, as shared in an official statement.

As Sirajuddin added, “We have received a tremendous response for our venture so far because of the unique business model and a right set of collaborations. This is quite overwhelming for us to see the eminent of the society are keen to partner with us. We hope to leverage this opportunity to manifold and disrupt the market. The latest investment received further strengthens our confidence and brings a larger strength to the venture”.

Most recently, US-based coworking startup WeWork entered India with the launch of the first hub in Bengaluru and later another hub in Mumbai. BHIVE Workplace, Innov8, 91springboard, Awfis and many others compete in the coworking space with Creator’s Gurukul.

With the recent funding, how Creator’s Gurukul will strengthen itself against the existing coworking spaces in the country, remains to be seen.
