MG Motor India has announced that it is planning to showcase a range of future mobility in the upcoming Auto Expo 2020, which will be held between February 7-12. MG Motor’s range would include concept models of connected, electric and autonomous vehicles.

Rajeev Chaba, president and MD of MG Motor, said that the company is committed to pushing for eco-friendly, next-generation mobility in India. Chaba also added that the company plans to follow this strategy for the long term.

“Our presence at this year’s Auto Expo with a focus on future technologies for India is a testimony to this commitment. All MG products at the Expo operate at the intersection of our core focus on innovation, customer experience and sustainability-led development,” he added.

Besides MG Motor, Auto Expo 2020 will also showcase EV solutions from 18 startups. These startups include Gurugram-based Okinawa Autotech, Jaipur-based Devit Motors, Pune-based eVERVE Motors and Bengaluru-based ONB Technologies, among others.

Even automobile makers Mahindra and Volkswagen are also expected to showcase their EV models at the event. Volkswagen might display its Volkswagen ID 3, whereas Mahindra plans to showcase the electric version of its KUV sports utility vehicle (SUV).

What Else To Expect From MG Motor?

In December 2019, MG Motor unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) for the Indian market, ZS EV. The EV model is set to be launched on January 27, 2020. The vehicle is expected to be priced between INR 22 Lakh to INR 25 Lakh.

The vehicle will reportedly be launched in two variants — Excite and Exclusive. The EV will be powered by a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery that will allow the vehicle to cover 340 Km on a single charge.

Besides this, MG Motor will also provide a 7.4kW charger that can be set up at home or work. For the installation of charging infrastructure at homes, MG Motor has partnered with Delhi-based eChargeBays.

In a previous press statement, MG Motor India’s Chaba said that the company aims to provide adequate charging infrastructure for its first set of customers as it is crucial for the EV market to flourish. The company believes that by helping customers to set up charging infrastructures at home, it will be able to create a stronger EV ecosystem.

Besides this, MG Motor is also focusing on setting up charging points across major cities in India, including Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. For this, MG Motor has partnered with cleantech company Fortum Charge to install 50 KW CCS and Chademo DC public fast-charging stations, which are compatible with MG Motor EVs.

In November 2019, MG Motor set up its first charging station in Gurugram, Delhi NCR.
