Electric two-wheelers Ampere Vehicles, which is owned by Greaves Cotton, has launched its electric scooter Reo Elite. Ampere adds that license or registration is not required to ride Reo Elite due to low speed.

Ampere Vehicles’ newest addition Reo Elite is powered by 48V-20Ah lead-acid battery and can cover 55-65 Km on a single charge. The battery powers a 250 W electric motor that allows the e-scooter to go up to 25 Kmph. Ampere’s Reo Elite price starts at INR 45,099.

P Sanjeev, COO of Ampere Vehicles, in a press release, said, “Reo Elite electric scooter stands for comfort, class, style and will be a smart solution to affordable commute for millions of Indians.”

The e-scooter comes with features like LED digital dashboard, extra boot space, alloy wheel rim, dual shock absorbers and USB charging point, among others. The e-scooter is available in four colours — red, black, blue and white. Ampere Vehicles claims that Reo Elite is an economical choice as it allows users to save more per kilometer and comes with a year warranty on its battery.

Reo Elite can be booked for INR 1,999 on Ampere’s website and through dealerships in Bengaluru. To promote safety, the electric scooters will come with free helmets.

Nagesh Basavanhalli, MD and CEO, Greaves Cotton said, “Through Ampere we are focused on building a portfolio of world-class, made-in-India and clean mobility solutions. With extensive Greaves Retail network and exclusive Ampere showrooms, we are well on course to making our electric vehicles available across.”

Founded in 2008 by Hemalatha Annamalai, Coimbatore-based Ampere Vehicle also offers two-wheeler electric models such as Zeal, V-48 LA, Magnus 60, Reo LA and REO Li. In October, Ampere struck a deal with Amazon to sell its scooters online.

The scooters are currently available for online sale in 10 cities — Theni, Thoothukudi, Udumalpet, Tiruchirappalli, Moodabidri, Mangaluru, Gobichettipalayam, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Karur and Ambur. Eventually, the sale will be expanded to other regions.

Then in November, Ampere also partnered with two-wheeler financing company WheelsEMI to provide lending options for users planning to buy its electric scooters. Through this partnership, WheelsEMI will provide credits, collateral-free loans, lower interest rates, eligibility checks, and assistance throughout the process. Moreover, it will also customise deals according to the customer’s requirements.

As per Breakthrough Batteries Report by Rocky Mountain Institute’s (RMI), the electric two and three-wheelers will become cheaper than petrol and diesel-run vehicles in India by 2023, whereas the US will lag behind for at least seven years. The report highlighted that electric two and three-wheelers will account for over 80% of passenger vehicles sold by 2030.
