Bangalore-based shuttle bus service, ZipGo, has again suspended its services in the city after the state transport department alleged them of violating rules and operating without permits.
Founded in 2015 by Jitender Sharma and Pritesh Gupta, ZipGo, offers on-demand AC bus service and is backed by Orios Venture Partners. ZipGo and BMTC function in the same space and entered as a competitor to the state-run entity. It has been asked to suspend its services as it does not have a permit to ply on the road.
Ramegowda, Karnataka’s commissioner for transport and road safety said, “They are operating illegally. They have to obtain a permit, a stage carriage permit, but they won’t get it here because it’s the same area as the BMTC. Because of this they can’t operate.”
Zipgo recently launched a shuttle bus service from 14 points across the city to the Kempegowda International Airport for INR 149, whereas BMTC offers the same service for over INR 170.
In December last year, the company had to suspend its operations for the same reason. At the same time, bus and shuttle aggregators service providers, Shuttl and Ola’s Shuttle were suspended to operate in Gurgaon. Other players in this segment are Rbus and Cityflo also fall in the same league.
Earlier this year, the Delhi Dialogue Commission on January 11 submitted “office memorandum” with a draft policy to the transport department which talked about regulating the bus aggregators.
