Gurgaon-based full-stack food-tech startup operating in the daily meals segment, Yumist, has raised $2 Mn (about INR 12 Cr.) in a fresh round of funding led by Ronnie Screwvala‘s fund Unilazer Ventures and from existing investor Orios Venture Partners. Steven Lurie, a valley-based investor, also participated in in this round of funding.
As per the deal, Ronnie Screwvala will join the company’s board.
Yumist, founded by Ex-Zomato, Alok Jain, along with restaurateur Abhimanyu Maheshwari, and was launched in November 2014. The startup serves home-style meals prepared in their own kitchens at price points of INR 65+. Meals can be ordered through Yumist apps or website, which is deliveredin under 30 minutes. Yumist’s aim is to provide quality and convenience in this price sensitive market, through use of technology and food science across the supply chain.
The raised amount will be used to scale up operations in existing cities like Gurgaon, Delhi and Bangalore. The startup also plans to expand its services to Mumbai and Pune. Besides, the raised funds will also be deployed to expand Yumist’s marketing, data science, technology & finance teams. Currently, the company has 180 employees altogether.
The company has been building its new kitchen in NCR which will have capacity to handle 30,000 orders a day.
Other startups that have raised funding in this space include, Delhi-based food delivery startup, EasyKhaana, raised $100K in its angel round of funding; Mumbai-based food-tech startup, DishCo, an app that allows users to book restaurant tables & discover signature dishes raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding; and Gurgaon-based foodtech startup, Leaping Caravan, raised $150K in funding from a group of angel investors.
Also, Pune-based quick service restaurant (QSR) chain Faasos has reportedly closed a $30 Mn (about INR 200 Cr.) round led by Russian internet-focused investment firm ru-Net. Few other companies operating in the food-tech segment include, Zomato, TinyOwl and Swiggy among others.
