Noida-based sporting app Sportido that enables participation in sports and fitness activities, has raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding from Sumpoorna Group.
Talking about the product, Vishal Lunia, co-founder and CEO of Sportido said, “The app currently enables a person to locate and connect with like-minded people with interests in sports, explore new sports, locate venues, create sporting events and even find deals on clubs and gyms. Eventually, we will expand to sporting equipment and accessories that would enable a sporting culture.”
The startup will use the funds to scale up operations including partnering with service providers, vendors, and customer acquisition.
Founded in 2015 by Vishal Lunia, Neeraj Aggarwala and Akhil R, Sportido is an app that enables location-based participation in sports and fitness activities by answering what, where, when, how, and whom to play with for said activities.
It helps the user discover and play a sport with like-minded people. According to the company website, it has over 3,000 sports to choose from.
The app also allows users to create their own event and invite their friends (or all Sportido users) to join. Currently, the Sportido app can be accessed by signing up using Facebook. The app is available on iOS and Android.
Prior to this, in June 2016, Delhi-based sports tech startup, Play Your Sport, raised an undisclosed amount of Pre-Series A funding led by Ashish Gupta, former co-founder of E-valueserve. Other startups in this segment include Sports365, Football solutions, Athletto, Unilazer Sports etc.
The development was reported by ET.
