Career Platform For Women SHEROES Acquires Gharkamai

Online jobs and career community for women, SHEROES has acquired Gharkamai, an online platform that assists professional women to find work opportunities from home.

This move comes with a view to capitalise on the market that comprises 300 Mn women looking to reconnect themselves with work opportunities, as per an official statement.

Commenting on the development, Sairee Chahal, founder and CEO, SHEROES said, “SHEROES helps women to take control of their careers, whether it is home based, part-time, or full time. It also allows companies access to this diverse and high-quality talent pool. We are very excited and welcome the users of Gharkamai to Sheroes and assure to help them find career success on their own terms.”

Founded in 2008 by Manisha Sareen and Kachina Chawla, Gharkamai is an online portal that connects experienced women professionals with businesses for project based work. Gharkamai lists various work from home, flexi-time, and part-time work vacancies.

Launched in January 2014 by Sairee Chahal, SHEROES is a career destination for women in India to find mentorship, resources and career content along with career advice. It is a community of women, with members from over 20,000 locations as per the official statement.

The company claims to have more than 12,000 active users on its platform. It also runs a career support helpline via the phone and app. It has communities spread in all major cities across India including major metros, and upcoming cities like Jaipur, Indore, and Pune.

Talking about the acquisition, Kachina Chawla, co-founder, Gharkamai said, “Gharkamai is beyond a business; it is a movement to redefine work for women. We turned working from home into a reality for thousands of women, keen on utilising their experience and skills, whilst balancing the demands of modern life. With SHEROES that movement grows bigger, reaches further and changes more lives.”

Earlier last month SHEROES acquired health counselling platform LoveDoctor.

In August, SHEROES raised $1.8 Mn (INR 12 Cr) in Series A funding. The investment was led by Lumis Partners along with participation from The HR Fund and angel investor Rajul Garg. Existing investor, Raghav Bahl-led Quintillion Media also participated in the round.

It had earlier raised $770K (INR 5 Cr) in an angel round in August 2015, from Quintillion Media, 500 Startups, and a group of individuals including Vijay Shekhar SharmaRajan Anandan, Binny Bansal, Mekin Maheshwari, Girish Mathrubhootham, and Indus Khaitanand Krishna Mehra.

The portal currently faces major competition from Naukri.com and LinkedIn. Other similar startups in this space include Careesma, Glassdoor, TimesJobs, Iimjobs etc.
