Delhi-based SchoolKart, an online marketplace for school products has raised $300K from 12 angel investors, some of whom are prominent angel investors while, the others are HNI’s.
SchoolKart was founded in 2015 by ISB alumnus and former Amazon employee Nikhil Sareen. It is a one stop online-shop for school uniforms, stationery, sporting goods, reference books, etc.
The portal currently has school uniforms of over 500 schools across Delhi/NCR and pan India. The startup has over 25,000 products listed on its website including NCERT Books, Text Books, Reference Books, Sample Papers, Children’s Books, Dictionaries, School Uniforms, Sports Uniforms, School Shoes, Sports Shoes, School Bags, Water Bottles, Lunch Boxes, Sporting Goods, etc. It claims to have a traction of up to 5000 visits per day.
SchoolKart has raised about $500K so far. Currently, the team comprises of 15 people across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Customer Service & Technology.
SchoolKart also runs a CSR program called SchoolKart Cares, where customers who visit the website are given an option to donate their old uniforms, shoes etc. These products are picked up from the customer’s’ location by Schoolkart’s logistics partners and then donated to its partner NGOs to be distributed to the underprivileged.
Earlier in January 2016, Bangalore-based Giftxoxo acquired Mumbai-based Actizone, an online marketplace for booking and discovery of kids related activities. Other startups that cater to the kids related sector are Hopscotch, Firstcry, MyCity4Kids among others.
