Cab hailing service provider Ola has added another service to be a one-stop transport service provider. It is now piloting car rental service on an hourly basis.

Ola’s Google Play page now says, “Need a car on a standby to take you around? Now rent a cab on an hourly package with the all new Rentals. Available for local travel in select cities.”

A mail sent to Ola elicited no response.

This move by Ola is being considered to counteract Uber’s market share in the country. Presently, both Uber and Ola offer on-demand service taxi booking. However, Ola also offers advance bookings during the day.

Although, both the companies have stayed away from offering hourly packages, so far, unlike its other counterparts like Savaari Car Rentals, MyTaxiIndia and other car rental agencies.

Being different from the other players present in the taxi aggregation space, Ola and Uber are fighting their battle in the secluded space to outnumber each other.

Homegrown Ola, which is valued at $5 Bn, is in strong competition with San-Francisco-based Uber, valued at $68 Bn. Recently, Ola had also started piloting an outstation service in Delhi and then expanding to other cities like Mumbai and Bangalore.

Earlier in March, it introduced its Ola Micro offering a ride for INR 6/km to take on Uber’s UberGo service that was priced at INR 7/Km.

The development was first reported by Mint.
