Tech-based legal advice startup LawRato has raised an undisclosed amount in its Pre Series A round of funding led by Indian Angel Network (IAN). Post funding, V.P. Rajesh and Srikant Sastri from IAN will join the company’s Board of Directors.

The raised funds will be used for the development of its online platform and expansion of operations. It will also be deployed towards increasing its services to cover everyday legal matters such as property verification, promissory note, gift deeds, power of attorney etc.

Launched in 2014 by Rohan Mahajan and Nikhil Sarup, B2C startup LawRato is an online lawyer search platform that provides information regarding on-demand legal services. As per an official statement, it currently lists over 2200 lawyer profiles across 200 cities in India.

Rohan Mahajan, co-founder, LawRato said, “While people know that they need help with an issue, they don’t know the right way to navigate our legal system, and who to consult and engage. We help law-seekers connect with the right lawyer, and get basic legal advice for free. Lawyers listed on Lawrato have practice across 200 cities, and 300 courts across India, to help provide the required advice & representation for all legal issues.”

LawRato has recently launched a Hindi version of the platform as well, with an aim to extend its services to rural and semi urban areas in the country. The platform also offers verified lawyer listings across India.

The platform claims to provide its users free initial legal advice, including 35K+ published legal answers, common legal document formats, online law guides, and video law guides.

In February this year, Delhi-based online legal services platform, Legistify raised an undisclosed amount in a Seed funding round led by Ranjit Singh and other angel investors. In the same month, Bengaluru-based Notary Mama, the on-demand documentation and registration service provider raised an undisclosed amount of funding.

Other players in this space include VakilSearch, GetLegal etc.
