Indian journalism’s rockstars Mini Menon and Alok Nair have announced a strategic partnership by launching Indy Network, a technology-driven multimedia platform targeting the Indian user.
Founded in August 2016, Indy Network will create content platforms, programmes and campaigns across multimedia such as digital, TV, mobile, online and offline. They will also offer consultancy services for content and strategic business solutions. The content would be created independently as well as in collaboration with partners.
Mini Menon, co-founder and editor, Indy Network said, “With technology providing multiple touch points and a much clearer audience segmentation, Indy Network is based on the belief that the Indian audience, especially the youth, is being underserved and there are big and crucial content gaps that need to be filled. We aim to close this gap by offering clear, focussed content.”
Menon will lead the content for the network and her co-founder Alok Nair will take up the role of CEO. To manage research and innovation the duo has brought in Akshay Chavan as the head of research. “With increasing penetration of social media and technology, India is experiencing a dramatic change in the way content is being consumed and shared. These are indeed interesting times to be in!” said Akshay.
Menon aims that this venture will bring a “paradigm shift in content”. She was previously associated with Bloomberg India TV as the executive editor.
Alok Nair, CEO and co-founder, Indy Network said, “Indian media is ready for a new generation of passionate entrepreneurs creating Independent unbiased content. We are excited with the tremendous opportunity that digital offers & are hoping to create innovative content platforms catering to a diverse audience set across niches.”
Of late, Indian media has seen a boom in the digital content niche. Users are looking for innovative angles in the infotainment sector. Catering to these needs startups like Arre, Yaap and Voot etc. have become the new face of Indian digital media. Investors too are betting on this sector with Rainmaker Ventures investing $5 Mn in Yaap and Enam acquiring an undisclosed stake in Arre.
