JetSynthesys, backed by Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan, has launched a co-working space, Garage, in Mumbai.

JetLabs, the accelerator division of Pune-based JetSynthesys Ltd, has developed the co-working space. JetSynthesys has invested over $3 Mn in creating this facility. JetLabs is a accelerator within JetSynthesys that helps founders build sustainable global consumer products. It operates in the categories of Lifestyle, Entertainment, Convenience, Health and Employment.

Talking about the development, Kris Gopalakrishnan said, “To succeed, startups need a holistic ecosystem – from mentors to capital, from technology to design, from market access to legal and HR support, from learning to an inspired workplace. That’s what we have tried to build through Garage and Jetlabs.”

Garage is a co-working space located in Sun Mills Compound at Lower Parel in Mumbai. It has a capacity of about, 170 seats. It will house small teams from large internet businesses. It is also expected to work with digital transformation teams of large Indian traditional businesses.

It will provide a collaborative workspace that provides infrastructure, allied services, training and networking events, mentoring sessions, meetups with VCs and leading technology capabilities.

About 10 startups incubated, accelerated or invested in by Jetlabs and Jetventures, have already started using this facility. The startups are –

  1. Sonicjobs (a real-time platform to connect part-time jobseekers with employers in London in bars, pubs and restaurants),
  2. Happie – Haste Raho (Indian multilingual humour app and website),
  3. PretMode (online pre-loved fashion destination),
  4. TapHeal (online medical consultation portal and app),
  5. The Good Size (online plus-size fashion store),
  6. Clinito (healthcare marketplace),
  7. MUrgency (mobile app for quick medical assistance),
  8. Mezi (your personal AI assistant),
  9. TOK.tv (connecting global sports fans around real-time events) and
  10. Loanzen (peer-to-peer business loan market).

In addition, ScoopWhoop (Internet media and news company) has also become a member of Garage.

JetSynthesis is part of the Navani family-owned JetLine Group of Companies, the roots of which date back to the 1930’s in Bangkok, Thailand. It currently operates through MereeDhun for music, PlayIzzOn for gaming, Wakau for celebrity video blogging, DigiAdz for targeted digital advertising, dataLytiX for Big Data analytics and JetLabs/JetVentures for incubating, accelerating and investing in disruptive businesses in India and Silicon Valley.

Prior to this in February, IT services company Tech Mahindra Ltd. announced its plans to create a ‘startup garage’ for its in-house entrepreneurs. Earlier this week, it was reported that the government has certified 20 private organisations, including iSprit and Nasscom as incubators under the Startup India Action Plan.
