Gurugram-based hyperlocal grocery delivery startup, Grofer has taken it upon itself to kick demonetisation blues to the curb for its customers.
It has partnered with YES Bank, in a move which will allow Grofers customers to get currency notes delivered to their doorstep along with their grocery order for up to INR 2,000 through YES Bank PoS machines.
YES Bank has associated with Grofers for supplying cash across three cities – Mumbai, Gurugram, and Bengaluru. Grofers customers in these cities will have an option to get a home delivery of cash, along with their grocery order.
Talking about the partnership, Ashneer Grover, Chief Financial Officer, Grofers said, “While we are delivering daily essentials such as groceries and fruits & vegetables without cash; we cannot totally eliminate the need of currency notes as people sometimes require them for other reasons. This is our humble attempt to help our customers. Grofers delivery executives will carry PoS machines where customers can swipe and get cash within the comfort of their homes.”
Grofers customers, while ordering for groceries, can place a request for delivery of cash via a special code. Grofers delivery executives will carry a PoS machine powered by YES Bank, which can be used to swipe the customers’ debit cards for delivery of cash. It is expected that the service will soon be made available in other cities.
In October 2016, Grofers ditched its app-only model and launched its desktop website, following the trend set by Myntra.
Grofers has had a tough year so far. In January this year, it shut down operations in nine cities – Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Kochi, Ludhiana, Mysuru, Nashik, Rajkot, and Visakhapatnam.
The startup also got in a legal tangle after it revoked the job offers of 67 students. In July 2016, a legal notice was sent by 20 students collectively to Grofers.
