Flipkart Once Again Duped By Its Customers

Amidst the marking down of valuation and exiting of investors, ecommerce marketplace Flipkart is facing yet another trouble from consumers.

In a complaint filed by Flipkart, four people were arrested from Telangana’s Warangal district for allegedly cheating on Flipkart by ordering high-end cell phones and then replacing them with fake ones and claiming refund.

The accused have been identified as Gajjela Srinivasulu Reddy, MD Fazaluddin, J Ashok Kumar, and Sayyad Jaleel, who were earlier working with Flipkart in Nellore in the past. The people held under suspicion admitted that they took advantage of the lacunae in the company’s system to deliver and return products.

How Did It All Happen?

Explaining about the complete incident, Warangal Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said that the accused placed orders for high-end mobile phones from the company’s website under fictitious names and email Ids.

After the delivery of the product, they used to call up the customer care saying that the handset was not functioning properly or it was damaged and sought refund.

Following the complaint, the company refunded the entire amount.

However, instead of returning the original one they used to replace it with identical fake handset.

Flipkart lodged the complaint with KU Police, Warangal, after noticing that the handsets returned were fake.

The police has recovered 21 handsets worth INR 7.10 lakhs. Besides, it also obtained INR 6.50 lakh in cash and one laptop from their possession.

This is not the first incident in which Flipkart has been duped. Last year in December 2015, two former Amazon employees, Atul Sharma and Naveen Kumar, were arrested for cheating Flipkart over INR 50,000, who tried to fool the company by blaming them for sending stones instead of the ordered product. Earlier in October 2015, a similar incident took place where Veera Swamy, an individual based out of Andhra found a loophole in the return policy of Flipkart and tricked the company for over 20 months using its return policy which ended company losing over INR 20 Lakh.

Apart from the duping slander, recently, Flipkart was planning to file a case against over 20 companies to recover its dues that the companies have not cleared for placing ads on its (Flipkart’s) website.
