In an attempt to boost its logistics network for grocery supply, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) has partnered with food delivery platform Zomato, B2B supply chain ShopKirana and car rental platform Zoomcar. Meanwhile, Flipkart has partnered with Spencer’s Retail, on April 9, to keep its supply chain intact.

To start off with Godrej Consumer Products, the company has designated a special role and a different segment to each of these players. For instance, Zomato will be used to deliver the products directly to the customers. ShopKirana will form the link between individual retailers and Godrej Consumer Products. Meanwhile, Zoomcar will facilitate the timely delivery of essential products under personal care, hair care, home care, and household items to distributors.

Sunil Kataria, Godrej Consumer Products’ CEO of India and SAARC, emphasised that the three collaborations would empower the “communities and contribute to the greater cause of curbing this pandemic’s spread.”

Shop Kirana has also launched a new app ‘Zaroori’, which will allow retailers to place orders online. Besides this, ShopKirana has also received a license from Madhya Pradesh government for online orders and delivery of other essential goods.

Meanwhile, Zomato’s newest addition Zomato Market, a grocery delivery service, is going to come in handy for Godrej for home deliveries. “Through doorstep deliveries, GCPL’s aim is to ensure people remain indoors and order essentials from the comfort of their home. Consumers can order GCPL’s range of products,” the company said.

The alliance between Flipkart and Spencer’s Retail is going to be of a similar nature. Spencer’s Retail will become a seller on Flipkart’s platform and leverage its logistics network for distribution with Flipkart doing deliveries.

“In this tough environment, Spencers’ partnership with Flipkart provides another platform to a larger set of consumers to seamlessly access our range of essentials who may want to use other reputed platforms/marketplaces apart from our own Spencers App to buy during the lockdown.” said Spencer’s Retail managing director Devendra Chawla.

As per media reports, Flipkart is now looking for similar partnerships with brick-and-mortar retailers and FMCG companies to boost its grocery delivery services. The company is also said to be in advanced talks with Hindustan Unilever and ITC to sell essential products through its platform.

The company is also looking to extend its presence through Kirana stores and other retailers like D’Mart. Meanwhile, Flipkart has also partnered with Uber to facilitate faster deliveries.
