Alibaba’s UCWeb, which is known for its mobile browser app UC Browser, has announced the launch of its in-app cloud storage service in India. UC Drive helps users free up their smartphone’s internal storage and helps them store files securely and get access across devices.

What UC Drive Brings To The Table

Available through the UC Browser app, UC Drive can not only help users add files from their internal storage but can effectively act as the downloads folder for UC Browser users. UC Drive is a versatile option for those who want to use more than one cloud storage solution as well. Here are its main features:

  • Save To Drive: This lets users directly save all online downloadable content to UC Drive without downloading it to the phone. This can then be accessed on other devices as well.  All downloaded content goes directly onto the cloud, which removes the hassle of first storing it in their device and then transferring to another cloud system.
  • Variety Of Content: The in-app cloud storage service allows the users to download a variety of content to the cloud.
  • Unlimited Storage: Providing 20 GB of free storage to users, UC Drive lets users access content on the go and is certainly a great option for those who use UC Browser regularly to surf the web.

Accessing files stored on UC Drive is seamless and the service also uses data compression to help save mobile data, just like UC Browser.

UC Drive is launching first in India since the country is one of the largest markets for UC Browser. UC Browser was launched in India in 2009. The company says India accounts for 50% of its global downloads. UC Browser recently reported over 1.1 billion downloads globally.

With the advent of mobile technology and the proliferation of 4G data, India’s millennial and Generation Z is consuming more and more digital content by the day.  According to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG)- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report, the average digital video consumption in India has witnessed a 2X growth in the last two years. From 11 minutes per day, the average time spent in video consumption by Indians has now increased to 24 minutes per day.

Looking to tap this rise in content consumption, UC Drive brings a user-friendly and seamless solution for heavy data users.
