India’s generative AI (GenAI) moment is well and truly here, and over the past few months we have seen this phenomenal growth in the AI startup ecosystem up close as we build up to The GenAI Summit in Bengaluru on April 3, 2024.
From a handful of native AI startups in 2022, over the past two years, we have seen an explosion of startups, India’s first AI unicorn, major funding rounds at the seed stage and plenty of attention from investors and enterprises. For instance, Arjun Rao, cofounder and general partner at deeptech-focussed Speciale Invest, believes that the application layer will see the highest number of startups, becoming an attractive area for VCs to invest in.
“We are very interested and exploring more in the application layer, which uses GenAI and other machine learning technologies for various use cases, helping to enhance productivity and efficiency of various functional units in businesses. The gamut of application layer AI companies that we are looking at seems fairly competitive,” Rao added
