A Swiggy delivery agent has died today in Telangana after falling from the first floor of an edifice while escaping from a domestic dog’s attack. The delivery executive was named Rizwan.

The Swiggy delivery agent was attacked by the dog four days back. The incident took place when he went for a delivery and fell from the first floor of a building while escaping from the dog, according to ANI report.

“We are saddened by the untimely death of a young boy. Our team is in touch with the family of the deceased,” Swiggy’s spokesperson said.

In the wake of the delivery agent’s death, Telangana Police has registered a case against the dog’s owner Shobana.

“It has been four days since the incident took place. The delivery boy named Rizwan died at the hospital while getting treatment. We have registered a case under IPC Section 304(A) against Shobana, who is the dog’s owner,” said Narender, Banjara Hills, inspector of police, Hyderabad.

Notably, on the day of the delivery agent’s death, Swiggy announced a free ambulance service for its active delivery executives and their dependents for all kinds of emergencies. For this, the foodtech giant has partnered with Dial4242 ambulance services.

Talking about the ambulance service, Swiggy’s cofounder and CEO, Sriharsha Majety wrote on Twitter, “Today, we are taking an important step to make deliveries safer on Swiggy by launching an on-demand, fast and free ambulance service across 500+ cities for our delivery partners and their families. With an average response time of 12 minutes, this is set to change how we.”

As per the ambulance scheme, a Swiggy delivery agent can use the services either by calling a toll free number or pressing the SOS button on the app.

According to Swiggy, Dial4242 can dispatch different ambulances including BLS (Basic Life Support), cardiac, ALS (Advanced Life Support), inter-state, Covid-19 ambulances, and Hearse Vans based on the severity of the case.

In another such instance, Swiggy’s delivery agent named Kaushal died on New Year’s eve in Noida after colliding with a car and getting dragged by the car for about 1 km. The deceased’s family later lodged a complaint with Noida police.

This is not all. The foodtech giant has also made headlines for sacking about 250 employees working in supply chain, operations, customer service and technology roles. Prior to that, its archrival Zomato also fired nearly 3% of its workforce on the basis of employee performances.
