In a bid to help students, who may be facing troubles in continuing their studies due to the nationwide lockdown, edtech unicorn BYJU’s has now launched free live classes for students to help them cover the curriculum.
Given the lockdown till April 15, 2020, many schools are unable to conduct their regular classes, thereby interrupting the education of students. India is expected to remain under a lockdown till September, according to a report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
To help these students, BYJU’s will offer live online classes from in-house teachers. Students can reserve their preferred topic and slot from the schedule on BYJU’s mobile application. Further, students can select their preferred topic based on their class to book their slot.
To access free live classes, students can download BYJU’s mobile application from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. On the application, students can access the content by going on the ‘Live classes’ section. BYJU’S COO Mrinal Mohit said that students can attend around three to four regular sessions per week for free. These classes will be in addition to the edtech content available on the platform.
Mohit added that live classes will bring a schedule to their learning and give them access to teachers which they are missing especially now. “Our live classes will remain free for students across the country until the current situation persists,” he added.
Edtech Startups Join Covid-19 Battle
In these times, learning from home has gained traction more than ever before due to temporary school closure. Besides free live courses, BYJU’s is also offering all the content on the mobile application for free as well. Mohit said that, in March 2020, BYJU’s offered free lessons to close to 6 Mn new students. Besides metros, the company is also witnessing students from Tier 2 and Tier 3 also studying on the application.
Similar to BYJU’s, Delhi-based edtech platform Geneo has also launched free live classes by teachers for students of Class VI to X on its learning platform. The company is offering live classes for maths, science and English, based on the syllabi of the new academic year of CBSE schools.
Another edtech startup Vedantu has launched #21DayLearningChallenge during the lockdown. Under this, influencers are throwing open the challenge for others to learn something new and post their experience on social media.
Further, Lido Learning is also going to hire over 500 online tutors across the country in the month of April in its endeavour to ensure uninterrupted studies for students.
