Sigh Of Relief For The Online Cab Booking Startups, Govt To Introduce New Guidelines

From past two weeks there has been a lot of buzz in media regarding online cab booking services. After the Uber rape case government had banned the cab booking services in various states due to certain laws, which these were not complying to. Since then, government has been criticized by people for such a move.

But now, Indian government has decided to ease up the norms to make it easier for the cab booking services to operate in the country.

Delhi government is making specific guidelines in regard to the operations of the online and app booking services in the state which will also include mandatory installation of GPS devices and providing full database of their drivers to police.

According to a report, Transport Department has sent the proposal comprising strict guidelines for taxi operators to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for his approval. The proposal includes the following points:

1. Installation of GPS device in each cab
2. Submission of full driver database to the police.
3. Only cabs having NCR permit will be allowed to operate in the capital.
4. Those having all India permit will not be allowed to ply in the city.
5. Black and yellow taxi owners will be allowed to register with any cab service company.
6. Cab service providers will be responsible if driver is found committing any crime.
7. Drivers who are currently, individually running their taxis, to work under any registered company running taxis in Delhi.

Currently, in the national capital, there are over 78,686 taxis, including 12,000 black and yellow taxis.

The new rules will be applicable to all cabs plying in the national capital.
