ShareChat took down around 2.6 Mn content pieces in the month of June while users generated content (UGC)- violation of community standards accounted for most takedowns.

“We review the user reports that are sent to us and enforce removal actions if the alleged content is against our community standards,” ShareChat said.

Overall, ShareChat received more than 5 Mn (5,227,860) user reports during June this year. Of all the reports, abusive language was the reason for the highest number of complaints at 24.53%.

Among other complaints, sexually explicit content, spam, misinformation, illegal activies, violence, fake profile related compliants accounted for large part user reports.

The user reports include user profiles as well as individual content for violation of its policy standards, ShareChat shared in its monthly compliance report for June.

Moreover, it permanently terminated 11,856 user accounts in June. ShareChat also enforced account-level bans spread across different time periods depending on the severity of the violation. 

These bans include UGC ban where user is unable to post any content on the platform for the specified ban duration, an edit profile ban where user is unable to edit any profile attributes for the specified time period) and comment ban where user is banned from commenting on any post on the platform. The duration of these bans vary from one day, seven days, 30 days to 360 days.

Further, in the month of June, ShareChat received 12 requests from law enforcement authorities and investigating agencies. ShareChat said that it provided user data to authorities in 11 such instances. Moreover, three such requests from authorities were executed for content takedown and user ban on the basis of violation of community guidelines.

“We review these requests and share user profile data with the law enforcement authorities for valid requests, provided that the correct and complete details of such user accounts are sent to us. We may also take an action in the form of content/account take down in case there is a violation of our community guidelines,” ShareChat said.

Under the new IT Rules 2021 that came into effect in May 2021, social media platforms with more than 5 Mn users have to mandatorily publish monthly compliance reports.
