“Only when the design fails does it draw attention to itself; when it succeeds, it’s invisible.” – John D. Berry.

As Indian tech startups compete with global peers, it isn’t just enough to stitch together a product that just fulfills a certain user need. The software design, user interface and user experience (UI/UX) of a tech product, website or app is just as important as the core value proposition these days. As most modern tech startups are learning, good design drives customer stickiness, creates delightful experiences to bring users back and drives up engagement.

But that doesn’t mean creating a lot of bells and whistles in the interface — design should serve a purpose rather than call attention to itself because of its ingenuity. That’s why the intricacies of designing a product can be a tricky proposition for even the most experienced professionals, with overwhelming variables at each stage of ideation, prototype, testing and observation.

A good design ethic makes not only an immediate impact on the user to become a loyal customer but also leaves a lasting impression of the brand on him. With so much riding on this aspect of product making, it becomes extremely crucial to have an in-depth understanding of the frameworks that come into play in the design of products’.

As a precursor to The Makers Summit to be held in March 2021, Inc42 is conducting a series of masterclasses called The Maker Circle on the various aspects of product, design and marketing. Shesh Vasudevamurthy, product leader and mentor, took us through the ins-and-outs of working in a high-paced, growth-oriented environment in the first masterclass and now our second session is all set to go live.

This time, we will have Sruthi Sivakumar, head of design for shared mobility startup Bounce, explaining the framework for redesigning products and the nuances of product design along with pro-tips on how to master the art of UI and UX.

Here are the key takeaways one can expect from the second The Maker Circle Masterclass:

  • Learn about evolving products to meet the customer’s needs
  • Understand the frameworks for product redesign
  • Learn the efficient ways to prioritise the work of a product designer
  • Evaluate different design research methods to build better products

Enabling India’s Makers Community

Remember this is just the second part of a series of 10 such masterclass sessions.

In the next installation, we will be focussing on The Power Of Micro-Experiences To 10x Your UX — an insightful session where Saptarishi Prakash, senior product design manager for food delivery giant Swiggy, will speak in detail about how to track the impact of UI and UX on user behaviour and more. For more details on future masterclasses, click here.

The Maker Circle series is an interactive learning experience where each masterclass is designed to give attendees deep insight into the world of makers. It also paves a path towards TMS from March 12-14 to let you know what to expect from the sessions of the main event.

The Makers Summit 2021 will be India’s largest conference featuring more than 10,000 product founders, leaders and makers working at the intersection of product, marketing, and design. These luminaries of the industry and the best talent that India has to offer will share their collective wisdom and experience with India’s budding maker community, tech enthusiasts and business leaders alike.
