Flipkart-owned fashion etailers Myntra and Jabong have launched a Bluetooth enabled smart hearable device named Blink Play under inhouse label. The device will offer audio functions with advanced fitness tracking features.
This is the second device made by Myntra-Jabong after it acquired Bengaluru-based technology startup Witworks, which is focussed on producing smart wearable devices and their underlying software. Post acquisition deal, the startup’s team was inducted into its Innovation Labs.
With this device, users will now be able to enjoy a host of functionalities related to fitness in conjunction with Blink Fit App such as tracking daily activity such as steps, distance, calories while answering calls, listening to music etc.
The device will also allow the user to access a range of guided audio sessions on the app while tracking key activity metrics through an on-going training session. Currently, the device is available on the ecommerce platform in three metallic variants carbon black, moon silver and rose gold and two sporty designer variants in limerick and tangerine.
Some of the features that will be available on the device are:
- Fitness Data: This feature will calculate steps, distance, calories burnt and compare with previous data
- Audio Coach: It will provide guided audio training sessions for users can choose from, depending on activities indoor, runs, cycling sessions and walks
- Leaderboards: It will allow users to challenge themselves and friends on fitness tasks and goals, with a rank on the leaderboard depending on their scores.
“In-house innovation is a very strong working principle at Myntra and Jabong and this has helped us stay ahead as frontrunners at the intersection of fashion and technology,” said Amar Nagaram, head of Myntra and Jabong.
The company also added that the device was produced in the Innovation Labs at Myntra and Jabong which was established in 2018 to develop next generation technologies and offer innovative products at affordable price points.
This move is interesting as fashion etailers Myntra and Jabong are also looking to strengthen their footprint in the wearable market like its parent company Flipkart. The Walmart owned ecommerce giant which has gained popularity for sale of electronic had also launched its private label named MarQ in 2018 to sell electrical appliances such as microwave ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, and LED TV sets, among other items. An exclusive line of air conditioners and smart televisions were also included under this label.
