As PM Narendra Modi had earlier spoken during his talks with the Startup India programme beneficiaries, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India has signed an MoU with the Singapore e-Government Leadership Centre (eGL) to skill India’s workforce.
As per the MoU, both the organisations will work together to develop and implement skill development programmes across emerging technology areas like Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, reports ET.
The co-operation and collaboration between the two will further be extended to the vocational training on new-age technologies and training of trainers and assessors.
Commenting on the development, Khoong Chan Meng, CEO of NUS-ISS stated, “NUS-ISS has been playing a key role in Singapore’s skills development initiatives, by delivering continuing education programmes in emerging and critical skills areas including data analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and design thinking. This collaboration with NSDC also aligns well with our vision of enabling a digital economy that is always learning and always leading.”
According to the latest statement released by NSDC, 2.5 Cr people have been trained under Skill India in the last three years under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship programs.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship stated, “Over the next one quarter (July, August, Sept) we will aim to link one lakh skilled students to entrepreneurship.”
Since the launch of Skill India programme, NSDC has collaborated with a number of organisations and companies to bolster the Skill India development programme. This includes TCS, SBI, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Temasek Foundation International, and so on. NSDC has also signed an MoU with other countries like Australia.
The eGL, NUS-ISS will extend its advisory to NSDC and Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), and will also help them develop strategies for incorporating emerging technologies into existing skill training programmes in India.
As per the ET report, eGL will also train selected trainers on the ‘train-the-trainer’ programmes sharing its expertise in various critical and emerging domains like Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Tech-enabled Services, Urban Solutions, Finance, Digital Media, Advanced Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship to conduct research in the domain of skills development and emerging technologies for India’s growing workforce.
Skill India, despite all the hype, attention and budget allocated to this programme, has failed to meet the expectations, as hardly 30% skilled under the programme have succeeded so far, in getting the job, revealed an RTI response.
