Global media and services company News Corp has acquired Bengaluru-based GyanMatrix Services Private Limited (GMX).

Post acquisition, GMX will be rebranded to News Technology Services (NTS). Founder Rajan Parasuraman will lead the new entity as Managing Director.

News Corp already has a significant presence in India through its Dow Jones, Wall Street Journal and HarperCollins Publishers businesses. Earlier, it had acquired Noida-based media startup VCCircle and it also has a stake in Elara Technologies. Elara Technologies includes the digital real estate properties PropTiger, Housing.com, and Makaan.

Christina Scott, Deputy CTO, News Corp and Chief Product Officer & CTO, News UK said, “The GMX team has already done incredible work for us, from operations and infrastructure support, data technology and science, to software development, including working on The Sun mobile apps and website. We are looking forward to our global team going from strength to strength together post acquisition.”

GyanMatrix is a digital product development company. It offers products in categories such as mobile, web and data engineering, data science and analytics. It also provides services such as enterprise application development, cyber operations and infrastructure operations etc. for a number of News Corp businesses, including News UK Ltd, News Corp Australia, and Dow Jones.

Post the acquisition, NTS will work directly with News Corp’s global brands. The company will offer a range of technology services, including web development, application support, infrastructure management and cyber operations.

Also, as a new entity post-acquisition, NTS will expand its operations in India with an aim to create over 120 new jobs in the country.

NTS further plans to recruit for a range of roles, including infrastructure technology and operations, application development, data science, and digital product development.

“We plan to double the size of the team in Bengaluru within 6 months so that the entire News Corp group can benefit from their energy, innovation, and technical expertise,” said Dominic Shine, Global CIO, News Corp on the GyanMatrix acquisition.
