We bring to you the latest edition of movers and shakers of the week in the Indian startup ecosystem.

In these uncertain times, the pandemic has affected employees’ mental health and productivity, which has the potential to affect the company’s health. Many employees are worried about getting sick and losing income, or even losing their jobs.

Paid sick leave, leave of absence and work-from-home policies need a revisit to help ensure that employees feel safe enough to call out when they are unwell or ask to work virtually if their at-home situation changes.

To avoid this, HR needs to educate employees about clear communication strategies and they also need to be clear on their leave policies. It is crucial to provide employees with comprehensive, actionable education about the disease and its symptoms, as well as best practice safety measures.

Meanwhile, there has been a lot of noise in the ecommerce segment as most of the sale has come from small towns. The sale emerged as a boon for Tier II and Tier III sellers, who have surpassed their Tier I counterparts in terms of orders.

In the first three days of the festive season sale between October 16 to 19, over 300K (3 Lakh) sellers on Flipkart have catered to the needs of more than 250 Mn costumes across India. Of this, nearly 60% or 180K sellers were from Tier II and beyond regions.

Snapdeal too has noted a similar stream with nearly 65% of the orders going to sellers in areas beyond the country’s metropolitan cities.

HomeLane elevates Tanuj Choudhry

Bengaluru-based home interior services startup HomeLane has elevated its chief business officer Tanuj Choudhry to the position of cofounder and chief operating officer (COO).
