Indian meme marketing startup Wubba Lubba Dub Dub (WLDD) has raised $1.25 Mn from Negen Capital, in a seed funding round.

The startup said that the funding will be used to accelerate growth.

WLDD creates and offers fun content to companies looking to expand their audience reach. Besides, it offers influencer marketing, experiential marketing etc to build community and audience.

In 2018, three college buddies, Arihant Jain, Vivekanand Kilari, and Jaidev Kesti, founded the meme marketing firm Wubba Lubba Dub Dub (WLDD). When envisioning WLDD, the three friends identified the universal appeal of a meme and soon realised that a meme is a language, complete with emotions and nostalgic relevancy. Since then WLDD claims to have worked with more than 120 businesses, launched over 1,050 campaigns, and has a creator community of over 10,000 people.

Sharing thoughts on the capital raise, Vivekanand  Kilari, cofounder and chief meme officer, WLDD said, “We understand that in the new world digital IPs are a natural extension of a business, having built multiple IPs over the last 5 years this is where the world is heading we are at 8 million followers across our digital IPs and we plan to grow it to 80 million in the next 5 years!”

The idea of digital marketing has been transformed by an increasing amount of content innovation by the creators. A report by Zefmo found that the Indian content influencer marketing sector is expected to grow to INR 3,000 Cr in FY24.

Last year, in January, film and digital studio startup Content Engineers raised $50 Mn from Veear Projects Inc. Also, in a bid to capitalise on the growing NFT-mania in the country, meme-creating platform MemeChat has launched The Meme Club in January 2022.

The Indian meme marketing industry includes players such as GryNow, Youngun India, Confluencer, etc.

However, according to an ET report, by October 2022, only 1.5 Lakh creators were able to make money out of more than 8 Cr creators in India. In fact, the study revealed that even less than 1% of the content creators earn around INR 53 Lakhs. Though the number of content creators is increasing with time, only a handful of Indian creators are able to draw money out of it.
