Mumbai-based wedding planner The Wedding Brigade has scooped up an extension of Pre-Series A funding from Japan-based AET fund and Blume Ventures, which led a $1 Mn round with participation from investors including Allana Group and other angel investors.

Started by Sanna Vohra in 2014, The Wedding Brigade offers content, shopping, and services platform for Indian weddings.

The platform enables users to browse wedding inspiration content, buy wedding-related products like clothing, costume jewelry, and gifts, and book wedding-related services such as venues, photographers, make-up artists and more.

With services active across cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Goa, the company delivers pan-India. It is now looking to use fresh funds to scale its latest business, creating and operating high-quality wedding banquet spaces, as well as investing in their existing content and ecommerce businesses.

Interestingly, Blume Ventures is one of the earliest backers of the company and had last invested in Pre-Series A funding round in January 2018 itself. Till date, The Wedding Brigade has raised over $2.6 Mn funds.

Sajid Fazalbhoy, as part of the investment team of Blume Ventures, said “We have witnessed The Wedding Brigade’s exciting journey over the last couple of years from a purely content platform to a formidable online / offline brand that solves the pain points in the wedding planning process. We are happy to continue to support the company as it looks to scale its offerings immensely within the coming year.”

According to a US-based venture capital firm CerraCap Ventures, the Indian market for wedding-related services is estimated to be worth $40 Bn. However, the market is crowded and The Wedding Brigade faces tough competition from players like OYO-acquired Weddingz.in.

In a media interaction today (March 12), OYO Hotels and Homes founder and group CEO Ritesh Agarwal commented on the Weddingz.in acquisition saying that as an independent company it has played out very well as it reached nearly 1 Mn followers on Instagram and continues to partner with various high-profile marriages.
