US-based professional networking platform LinkedIn has strengthened its Indian base with the appointment of Ashutosh Gupta as country manager for India.

Gupta will be taking over the role from Mahesh Narayanan, who was country manager for India from January 2019 to June 2019.

In his new role, Ashutosh Gupta will report to Olivier Legrand, LinkedIn’s managing director for the Asia Pacific region. He will join the company’s APAC senior management team.

He will relocate to India from Singapore to assume his new responsibility. In addition to his country manager role, he will continue to lead the LMS Online Sales Organization for APAC and China.

With two decades of experience in the IT space, Gupta comes as an experienced sales leader. He joined LinkedIn in 2013 to lead LinkedIn’s Marketing Solutions (LMS) in India, where he scaled the enterprise business. In 2016, he moved to Singapore to build LMS’s Online Sales Organisation (OSO) for Asia Pacific and China.

Ashutosh Gupta, country manager – India, LinkedIn, said, “India is a strategic market for LinkedIn, and its developing economy and dynamic jobs market is ripe with opportunity for LinkedIn to add value for our members and customers. I also look forward to forging deeper government relationships to inform policy-making with actionable data on jobs and skills, and make LinkedIn an integral part of the national agenda.”

In 2018, LinkedIn had crossed 50 Mn members in India. The company has doubled its user base in the last four years. LinkedIn has adopted a localised approach in India. In the past few years, it has taken several initiatives to democratise opportunities and connect professionals to enable them to be more productive and successful in their careers.

Some such initiatives include Daily Rundown, a video content series entitled ‘How I Got Here’ and ‘Second Innings’.

The platform has been working to bring together industry leaders to share their stories, engage in deep conversations, and inspire professionals, students, and career starters on the platform.

Olivier Legrand, managing director – Asia Pacific, LinkedIn, said, “I am confident that Ashutosh’s strong understanding of the company’s business, his seasoned leadership experience, and deep market experience will drive forward the right strategic plans for India.”
