On-demand mobile platform Go-Jek has acquired Loket, a leading event management and ticketing platform in Indonesia.

The financial details of the acquisition are undisclosed. However, the company revealed that, post-acquisition, Loket’s management and operations will remain independent.

Talking about the acquisition Go-Jek CEO Nadiem Makarim said, “We see Loket as a company that continues to innovate and utilise technology in its experience of handling various events and entertainment needs. This collaboration will eventually be able to provide various services that can help promoters solve the main problems of an event; for example, ticket distribution, audience management, and the provision of innovative entertainment. The promoter will then be able to feel the impacts due to the increase of audience satisfaction.”

Go-Jek’s  Go-Tix is a mobile-ticketing platform for entertainment and cinema tickets and information providers of events ranging from music, sports, arts and culture, attractions, Indonesian tours to workshops in Indonesia. Post-acquisition, Loket will be able to tap into Go-Tix’s offerings. Go-Tix currently offers more than 250 events and a relationship with two national cinema networks, CGV and Cinemaxx.

Loket CEO and co-founder Edy Sulistyo said, “With this partnership, we are able to better benefit our partners by supporting more events of all sizes covering live music events, festivals, attractions, workshops, seminars and movies.”

Founded in 2013, Loket allows users to create, share, find and attend events like music festivals, marathons, conferences, hackathons, air guitar contests, political rallies, fundraisers, gaming competitions, etc. As per a company statement, Loket claims to have enabled more than 80% of large-scale music events in Indonesia since inception.

Started in 2010 as a two-wheeler transportation company Go-Jek has become a leading on-demand mobile platform and app. Go-Jek is now an app-based, on-demand service provider for a variety of services. These services vary from transportation, logistics, payment, food delivery and more. As per a company statement, it connects more than 300K ojek and car driver partners, 100K food vendors, and about 7K other services. The company currently operates in 35 cities.

In February 2016, it acquired two Indian startups: C42 Engineering and CodeIgnition. The deal was made with an aim for Go-Jek to set up an R&D centre in Bengaluru, where it planned to recruit over 100 senior engineers in the next six months. Later in September 2016, Go-Jek acquired Bengaluru-based healthcare marketplace Pianta for an undisclosed amount. This was followed by the acquisition of  Pune-based mobile application developer Leftshift.

Most recently in July, the Indonesian unicorn raised a massive $1.2 Bn in its latest funding round led by Chinese Internet company Tencent. Post the investment, Go-Jek is now valued at $3 Bn.

With the latest acquisition of ticketing platform Loket, Go-Jek will look to provide better technology and more innovative solutions for ticket distribution, crowd control, customer insight, audience engagement and cashless payments to further increase its in-venue transactions in Indonesia.
