In another good news to the booming startup ecosystem in India, the open-source software development platform GitHub has made its developer platform for startups available in the country.

Eligible startups in India, and globally, will receive up to 20 seats of GitHub Enterprise free for one year. Moreover, the startups will also be provided with support and guidance from GitHub technical experts, IANS reported.

“As the home for the world’s developers, it is our responsibility to provide entrepreneurs access to our complete developer platform, so anyone can rapidly and securely turn their aspirations into the next great startup of tomorrow,” Thomas Dohmke, CEO of GitHub, said as quoted in the report.

Globally, GitHub has 83 MN+ developers, while in India it has over 7.2 Mn developers.

GitHub for Startups was launched earlier this year. Developer collaboration and productivity, security, and speed of innovation have become more important than ever, GitHub said in a blogpost after working with partners around the world and hundreds of startups in the pilot group.

GitHub’s platform has also partnered with some of the world’s leading venture capital, accelerator, and startup support organisations to offer its developer platform to startups in their ecosystems, the blogpost statement added.

“GitHub for Startups is the best wingman an engineering manager could ask for. Its powerful CI/CD tools helped us automate tasks like linting, testing, and publishing, saving countless engineering hours,” Madhav Krishna, founder and CEO of Vahan, said.

According to Statista data, revenue in the Indian software market is projected to reach $6.74 Bn in 2022. The market’s largest segment is Enterprise Software with a projected market volume of $2.70 Bn in 2022. Overall market volume is estimated to reach $12.01 Bn by 2027, with an annual compound annual growth rate of 12.24%, during 2022-2027.

Founded in 2008, GitHub was developed by Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett, Tom Preston-Werner and Scott Chacon. Back in 2020, the software development platform announced the launch of its India-based subsidiary GitHub India Private Limited to get more developers and enterprise customers from the country.

In the same year, the platform witnessed 1.8 Mn new developer registrations from India, taking the total number of Indian GitHub developers to 5.8 Mn.
