Bangalore-based ecommerce giant, Flipkart is in advanced talks with Gurgaon-based online travel company, MakeMyTrip to start online ticketing business. It appears that Flipkart wants to cash upon this ever growing space and also to become one-stop destination for all the consumer need.

It is reported that, Flipkart is likely to launch the online ticket booking services in September. It’s the same time of the year when the ecommerce company will bid adieu to its website and go app only.

A senior employee of Flipkart who is privy to the company’s plans said, “We are planning to integrate ticketing powered by MakeMyTrip on the Flipkart marketplace, which means that a customer will be able to book air and rail tickets from the Flipkart platform”

Flipkart is not the only one looking to integrate its services with acquisitions. In March, Amazon  signed a two year deal with the IRCTC to become the official shopping partner of Indian Railways online ticketing platform. While, in April Snapdeal acquired online recharge platform FreeCharge, which offered mobile and bill payments and financial services such as home and personal loans.

Statistics show that India’s ecommerce market is dominated by ticketing services, with airline bookings estimated to account for over half of all ecommerce transactions. The services segment that includes travel bookings, mobile recharge and bill payments is emerging as a crucial growth front for online retailers.

In this space, MakeMyTrip, Yatra and Cleartrip have been dominating big shares while MakeMyTrip is the current market leader.
